Bombshell Santa Monica is Sustainable

Hello dear friends and family of bombshell! It is with excitement that we share our first edition of “Bombshell Beauty,” an educational, monthly newsletter series dedicated to keeping you in the know on all things hair. With this series, we hope to remind you how important it is for us to continually educate ourselves on the latest industry trends, techniques, products & services so that we may better serve you & our community. For our first edition, we feel inspired to share more about our journey toward total sustainability. Much like everyone else, we’ve come to realize the beauty industry has contributed significantly to environmental pollution. And as business owners, stylists, and members of the Santa Monica community, we believe it’s our responsibility to understand how to do our part in reducing our negative impact on our planet.

We’re excited to say we’re actively reducing our waste by 95% as a sustainable salon certified through Green Circle, a responsible waste recovery program that helps salons all over the country give “beauty waste a new life.” Green Circle is B Corp and Carbon Trust certified to meet the highest standards of environmental and social responsibility. Through education, training, and even financial support, Green Circle has given us the tools to easily recycle, repurpose, and manage all of our waste, From excess hair color, foil, plastic, and cardboard to hair clippings and PPE, we hardly have any “trash” left to throw away. And in 2021 alone, we’ve safely disposed of over 10 lbs of hair color that would typically end up in our landfills, sewers, and oceans!

We are also on our way to becoming a Santa Monica Green Certified Business, which ensures that operationally, we take the necessary steps to minimize our impact on the environment through decreased water usage, electric efficiency, and also by carrying products that may be recycled and repurposed.

Lastly, we are happy to share that alongside Kevin Murphy and R+Co, we are now carrying OWAY— an Italian luxury hair care line that’s clean, organic, and healthy. In addition to many sustainable features of their business, OWAY has eliminated plastic from their packaging and their product is rich in natural, active ingredients which are harvested organically. Not only is OWAY great for your hair and skin, but it is also safe for the environment. We hope this new product line gives our clients comfort to know that OWAY is a leader in organic, sustainable hair care.

While our total sustainability goals exist on a small scale within the beauty industry, we hope this illuminates that we are doing everything we can to support a better future. At bombshell, we believe in the importance of sustainability in all aspects of our business and it gives us peace of mind to know that we are actively reducing harm to our precious environment. We want members of our community to know that as clients and patrons of our salon, they’re also participating in this positive movement alongside us. We’re hoping to be an example within our community so that other businesses join us in doing better for people and the planet.
